About AO
Alpha Omega is the oldest international dental organization and was founded in Baltimore, Maryland in 1907 by a group of dental students, originally, to fight discrimination in dental schools.
Alpha Omega is NOT a University social fraternity. It is a professional fraternity with over one hundred chapters, comprising a membership of over 12,000 fraters. It is represented in the USA, Canada, Europe, Israel, South America, Australia, South Africa and many other countries.
Objectives
AO aims to promote the profession of dentistry, to establish a spirit of fellowship and to develop high standards of scholarship among its members.
Although Judaism is one of the founding principles of Alpha Omega, it is a nonsectarian organization and many of its members are not Jewish.
Programs
Each year AO holds a convention from December 25-Jan 1. This year AO is kicking off its 100th year in Las Vegas. Participants have the opportunity to meet fellow fraters from around the world during a week of vacationing, partying and networking.
Additionally, every year there is a student leadership seminar where students have the opportunity to participate in seminars with fraters from other chapters around the world developing leadership skills, discussing Alpha Omega, and socializing.
AO is famous for its Externship Program. Students can spend several weeks in some of the finest dental offices around the world and experience the many delivery systems in our profession to aid in selecting a specialty. Here are what some 4th year students have had to say about their summer externship experiences…
Social Events bring together the best of two worlds, hanging out with good friends and FREE food. Some examples of past social events include our kick off BBQ, Hannukah party, Shabbat dinner with Dr. XXX, mid summer pool party and much more.
